A dental procedure in which infected, injured or dead pulp is removed from the tooth and the tooth is preserved or saved.
Root canal treatment is required when one has:
- A deep cavity infecting the nerve of the tooth
- Trauma/fracture to the teeth
- Discoloured Teeth
- Localized sensitivity to hot and cold fluids
- Pus discharge from a particular tooth
With the help of endodontic instruments the infected pulp is removed and the canal fillings are done. The root canal treated teeth need to be restored for function and will require a crown or an only post endodontic work.
With recent advances in techniques root canal procedure has become relatively painless and can be easily completed in a single visit.
