Root Canal Treatment

If the dental decay extends deep into the tooth it may reach the “nerve of the tooth” which is otherwise protected by the layers of the tooth in the pulp chamber. This may reach the root and spread into the surrounding one leading to symptoms of pain on chewing or while lying down. We may advise root canal treatment or Endodontic treatment which involves cleaning out the infected pulp and nerve, disinfecting the canals and then filing it with an inert radio opaque material which will remain in the tooth and prevent further infections from occurring. In most cases this will be followed by placing a cap or crown on the tooth to protect the remaining tooth structure.
